The Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces Record-Breaking Year at 2023 Annual General Meeting
The Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation celebrated a record-breaking year at its 2023 Annual General Meeting. Chair Martha Hunt announced the community raised an astounding $3.8 million, including $2.1 million for new equipment like a CT scanner and $1.7 million for hospital redevelopment. Significant contributions came from the Estates of Bill Scott and Bruce Westlake, and Arnold Westlake. The Foundation also introduced new branding and acknowledged the efforts of volunteers and former Chair Calvin Newman. Highlights included surpassing fundraising goals at signature events and acquiring vital new equipment for the hospital.

TRENT HILLS – The Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) Foundation held its 2023 annual general meeting this week and reported its best year ever. Martha Hunt, Chair of the CMH Foundation, reported 2023 was a tremendously successful year raising funds for the Hospital. Hunt said, “I am pleased to announce the community donated an astounding $3.8 million to the Foundation. This includes $2.1 million for the current equipment needs, including the new CT Scanner, and $1.7 million designated for the proposed hospital redevelopment. Significant gifts for the redevelopment were received from the Estate of Bill Scott (on behalf of Bill and his brother Bob), the Estate of Bruce Westlake, and from Arnold Westlake.”
During her address, Hunt also acknowledged the countless hours put in by volunteers, including in-hospital volunteers, Auxiliary members, Board of Directors, and event volunteers, particularly those involved with the Ranney Gorge Run, Doctors’ Cook-off, and Catch the Ace Raffle. “I want to express our gratitude to those who give so much of their time, energy, and passion to our cause. You are making local health care better, and the new CT Scanner alone is proof of that.”
Hunt also took a moment to acknowledge the Foundation’s new branding, including a new logo and website. “I am thrilled with how everything looks. The new logo is bright and refreshing and perfectly reflects the energy and enthusiasm the staff, board, and volunteers put into the work they do.”
During the AGM, Hunt thanked former Chair Calvin Newman who retired from the Board after 14 years. “I think it is fair to say much of the success the Foundation has enjoyed over the past 14 years can be attributed to Calvin’s effort and guidance. Calvin always led by example in his support and advocacy of the hospital and never shied away from encouraging other individuals or business leaders to support the hospital in any way possible.”
During the AGM, the Board welcomed Beth Lucciola of Havelock as its newest member.
Highlights for the Foundation in 2023 include:
- Their three Signature Events, the Incredible Doctors’ Cook-off, Catch the Ace Raffle, and Ranney Gorge Run all surpassed previous years’ fundraising.
- Many successful third-party events are hosted by local groups and businesses in support of the Hospital, including the Annual CDHS Jazz Concert, Bennett’s Designer Tree Benefit, Hospital Day at McDonald’s, and the Monkey Business Monkey Hat Fundraiser.
- A highly successful Angels of Care Campaign, including the Giving Tuesday Initiative in partnership with Scott Drummond Motors.
- New donor-funded equipment purchased for the hospital in the past year, including the CT Scanner, Patient Wandering System, Patient Lifts, Medication Cabinets, Stretchers, Defibrillators, Bladder Scanner, the Clinical Information System, IT Equipment for every corner of the hospital, and Staff Education.
