Accelerator Profile: Trent Hills Canadian Tire Giving Back
Aaron Macanuel, owner of Trent Hills Canadian Tire, continues his community support of the Hospital by leading a $19,000 fundraising effort for a new CT scanner at Campbellford Memorial Hospital. His dedication to giving back showcases the importance of businesses investing in their communities for mutual success.
Supporting locally is not just a motto for Aaron Macanuel and everyone at Canadian Tire; it’s a way of life. “When communities support business, it’s important for businesses to support communities,” says Aaron Macanuel.
Canadian Tire has been a part of Campbellford since 1938. In 2012, Aaron Macanuel’s lifelong dream came true, and he became the proud owner of Trent Hills Canadian Tire on Grand Road in Campbellford. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, who owned a Canadian Tire in North Bay, and his father, who worked at Canadian Tire’s head office in Toronto, Aaron fulfilled his ambition.
“It’s what I always wanted to do, and I am proud to say that I encouraged my brother-in-law to become a Canadian Tire owner too,” Aaron shares.
Canadian Tire’s motto has always been about investing in its people and strengthening the communities that it serves, as the people and communities are essential to the ongoing success of Canadian Tire Corporation. Aaron exemplifies this by giving back in so many ways. “A strong hospital makes for a strong community, and that’s a priority for me,” exclaims Aaron.
Canadian Tire does so many great things for the entire country, like their Jumpstart Program that helps kids overcome financial and accessibility barriers to sport. But this year, Aaron went above and beyond by boosting gifts to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 17th Annual Angels of Care Campaign.
On Family Day Weekend in February, Canadian Tire was the lead sponsor for the Chief versus the Councillor Road Hockey Showdown. “We signed on as the lead sponsor, but took it further and decided to do a matching gift incentive for all donations made in February to the new CT Scanner,” said Aaron.
During the matching program, Trent Hills Canadian Tire doubled all gifts to the Angels of Care Campaign and the new CT Scanner at Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) by up to $5,000. By the end of February, and the end of the Campaign, $19,000, including the Canadian Tire matching, was raised.
“Having a new CT Scanner at our local hospital is a great thing. Not only to help everyone in our community, but it helps recruit new residents, staff, and professionals to the area to make this community successful,” Aaron told us.
Trent Hills Canadian Tire employs 43 people, all living in and around the shop, who have used the hospital’s care countless times. Aaron knows the importance of the local hospital and how it relates to his employees. “I know it’s important for my employees to have a hospital close by instead of travelling for hours to get to one. I also know they like to see Canadian Tire giving back. It gives them a sense of pride.”
“When we have the funds, we like to donate,” Aaron exclaims, who has been giving back to the community for over 20 years. He encourages all businesses to donate, regardless of how much and how frequently. “A well-equipped hospital is extremely important to all people and businesses around for everyone’s success and future.”
With their generous support, Trent Hills Canadian Tire is a member of The Accelerators ~ Businesses Giving Back. The Accelerators include those businesses that contribute more than $1,000 annually to the hospital.
